Jacob... what a character. He has grown so much since last year. HOnestly, you would not recognize him; not in body or his personality. This summer, he was a lifeguard. He hated it with a passion for the first 2 months, but now, he is enjoying it and plans on guuarding next year. Evidentally, he does a great job. He was lifeguard of the week a few weeks ago. We've watched him and he is all business.
He worked very hard this summer preparing to try out for the soccer team. Last year, you wouldn't have caught him near a soccer field. He hated soccer and hated the thought of being on a team. But this year, his goal is to be involved so that he can put it on a resume for college. So he worked and worked. He was convinced that he wouldn't make the team. He has strikes against him going in.. so he knew it would be tough. This was the first year they were making cuts. Since he didnt play as a freshman, noone had a clue how good he was. He had to fight hard. After several weeks of fear, he made the cut. They actually didn't cut anyone, but pulled 5 kids aside and told them they might not get much playing time. he was not one of those kids. Then as the season began, he wasn't sure if he would get much playing time. But the first game and the second game, he started. The second game, when they were up 3-0, the coach pulled nearly all the starters. He didn't get a lot of playing time in the 2nd half. Who knows how much time he will get, but he is looking very, very good.
He is in debate and will be competeing in several tournaments throughout the year. That is a huge step for him. Public speaking does not come easily, so I am excited to see him grow. I can't wait, actually. I am confident that he is going to be amazing at it.
